A little over a year ago, December 3, 2014 to be exact, our lives changed forever.
Beyond excited, we drove to O'hare Airport to meet the newest member of our family at International Terminal 5.
From the moment I saw her sweet face posted on Nikki Tibbles Instagram account weeks before and read her horrific story, I knew in my heart she belonged with us. We were meant to be her forever family. Who could have imagined, that in just a few short emails and one month later, I would be the proud mother to a furry little Greek girl and have made 3 new beautiful friendships in the process...life is so strange and beautiful, isn't it?!
There's something so incredibly special about a rescue dog. Their hearts are bigger. Their souls...deeper. You can see it in their eyes. More often than not, as in our sweet Flossie's case (who was found tied up in a plastic bag at 6 weeks old, thrown out with the trash) they have been to hell and back. It's still difficult to think about without tears flowing freely. Her life was saved by the kindness of Matthew Usmar while out on a walk with his rescue dog Trixie. There are no words to express our gratitude to the incredible hearts of Matthew Usmar & Claire Lloyds, for welcoming that terrified beautiful bundle into their hearts & home (as they've done with so many others!) while working with the efforts of that amazing soul, Nikki Tibbles, to find her a forever home. OUR home.
Now days, you can find her racing around the yard...chasing birds, or wrestling with her sister Jinx, a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix we rescued a few months prior. They are partners in crime & the best of friends.
While we're still not sure what breed/breeds she is, to meet Flossie is to love her...one look in those eyes and there's no turning back.
