Sandy was dumped at the bottom of a nearby village lane with her four puppies. When she was found she was severely malnourished, with a brittle coat and was extremely stressed. She was relieved to finally be shown some love and kindness.
Sandy is very loving and great with people, she aims to please. She loves a new adventure and going on pack walks near the shelter. She would suit a family or a couple who enjoy walking and maybe even running! Given the chance, we think Sandy will be a great retriever and love playing with her own toys.
She is picky about which dogs she wants to play with but enjoys playing with her chosen friends! She can dominate female dogs, unless they are submissive in nature, so may be best suited to a home with a male dog or as the solo dog.
When she initially arrived at the shelter, she was very protective over her puppies. She reacted towards anyone or any dog that got close to the pen she was kept in with them but since the puppies have grown up she hasn’t exhibited this kind of behaviour. However, it is something to be aware of as she may have the tendency to guard a new home. She loves people and is highly trainable so this behaviour could be changed if shown.
Sandy has been around children 7-9 years old. For these reasons, Sandy would be best suited to a home with children no younger than 7 years old and experienced owners. She can be strong willed but with consistent training could be an amazing pet!
Sandy will be ready to travel from early September.
