Dex is a beautiful, misunderstood and confused pup. His story started in Cyprus and at the age of just 5 months old he was rehomed through another organisation to a family in the UK. Unfortunately, the other dog in the household continuously bullied Dex and nothing was ever done to stop it, until one day Dex realised he could bully the dog back. And then all of a sudden the blame was on Dex and it was demanded that he was rehomed, otherwise he would be euthanised.
As a young and impressionable puppy, Dex hasn't learnt how to be around other dogs properly. We have had a behavioural assessment in which he was able to walk alongside other dogs and be in close capacity, but on an average walk Dex feels threatened and anxious when he sees another dog and lunges on the lead. For this reason, we are looking for a home without another dog for Dex in a rural area. He absolutely loves being outside, so a home with a lovely garden is a must, and he would enjoy an active lifestyle.
Dex has a huge heart and an awful lot of love to give. He is quick to learn, eager to please and obedient, following commands such as sit and go to bed. Because Dex has moved from home to home over the past couple of months (due to foster homes only being able to provide short term care as it was over the Christmas period) he is confused and it will take a short while for him to settle into a new home. He'll expect to be whisked off somewhere else so may be a little anxious at first.
Dex is very affectionate, loyal and can be left alone during the day seemingly without any difficulties. He absolutely loves to play fetch, he'll do anything for a treat, he's a real softie and loves kisses, and he enjoys playing with toys, especially squeaky ones! Dex is an avid leaf chaser and sofa snuggler - he would make an excellent companion to someone who is prepared to help him overcome his anxieties around other dogs. With people he is a dream, and the only reason we recommend older children is due to his size and bouncy, enthusiastic character. He is a big baby at heart.
