What can we tell you about Charlotte? Well apart from being incredibly talented and generous, she is a self-taught artist practicing since 1994. During her travels abroad she discovered that that she had a hidden talent - she could paint. Ever since then, her work has always been based on the natural world, with a particular focus on animals. Charlotte’s paintings comprise of energetic palette knife strokes mixed with an intense and unique colour palette, layered by very textured mediums. Indian stamps, canvas shreds and metallic backgrounds are her personal trademarks.
Charlotte’s screen prints portray more playful elements of nature. Often using dogs as her subjects she utilizes various techniques to produce her screen-prints. Each one hand made on her studio desk employing specialist craftsmanship methods using wooden screens and brass hinges. Each print is hand-pulled and therefore, they will all vary slightly, rendering each one unique.
On top of her passion for painting, Charlotte is of course a dog-lover, and has recently provided a loving home for Manu, a gorgeous Wild at Heart Foundation dog rescued from Cyprus.
“I was in my studio with a fellow artist and close friend Helen, and was talking about how I’d like dog but wasn’t sure about buying a puppy and she said that Sophie Dahl had adopted a dog from a charity called Wild at Heart Foundation so we googled it together. After that I had several phone calls and emails with Faith and Eve and in November 2016 I was emailed a photograph of a very timid dog called Magnus who’d just been brought in from the streets. His ears were irresistible!”
