The Gaga Animal Care Centre in Lesvos is a private initiative started by Gerbien Fricke in 2013. The Centre is a refuge for stray dogs and abandoned puppies, a safe haven for dozens of rescued animals and a hub for animal first aid, medical care and advice.
With the help of friends and volunteers, Gerbien takes care of the animals on the island of Lesvos that need help, by providing food and medication, and by organising neutering programs.
Be part of a team that saves lives. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the upkeep of a centre. Your involvement will help to improve the lives of these poor animals and in many cases save lives.
Gerbien started the project in 2012 and after a lot of hard work and determination, she was finally in the position to build the Centre launching the Facebook page Gaga Animal Care in 2013. Now, there is a steady flow of comings and goings of animals in need and being rehomed. Gerbien administers medical and emergency care herself and organises neutering projects. However, with the amount of animals she now has to care for, she is struggling to find enough hours in the day to give them all the attention and socialisation that they need. The physical day-to-day work becomes so overbearing for her, that she hasn’t the time to promote the dogs over social media or to her friends and contacts. In addition to all the dogs she cares for, there are also rescue horses and cats to tend to!

What Gerbien needs are extra pairs of hands. As the Gaga centre is a project in progress there are also a lot of jobs, both small and large, in construction and repairs as well as cleaning, walking, grooming, socialising and caring for the animals. Although some of the jobs are hard work and mucky, the role of volunteering is such a rewarding one with endless opportunities for interaction (and cuddles) with the animals. For more information contact email@example.com and you could become a part of a team of life savers. We cannot stress enough how valuable the help of volunteers is, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think that you could help Gerbien and her rescue centre.
