Nadine's diary entry no.3

Diary entry no 3

Feeling very excited as all my learning is coming together… spoke to the Small Charities Coalition again today and I must say they are super helpful if you are a charity with questions that need answers. They are also finding me a mentor to help us through the process of setting up and running the charity. FABULOUS.

So far, we have worked out which type of charitable entity to be (no mean feat! as there are many options, advantages and disadvantages to consider)… after much research I believe our best option is to apply to become a ‘charitable incorporated organisation foundation’ – yes, it is a mouthful but it means we will be a fully-fledged all-singing all-dancing registered charity.

Our ‘charitable purpose’ is written and is the legal statement that the Charity Commission require for our application. Tick. Done.

Next … our name! Well obviously that is the easy one, all done. Domain names bought, social media networks registered, Registrar of Charities checked for similar names and Companies House checked.

What remains (for now at least) is the writing of the Governing Document, our constitution … a legal document that works as a kind of rulebook for a charity. All good fun. Onward and upward…
