Sunny's story is heartbreaking, because it puts into perspective just how hunting dogs are treated after their 'worth' fades. Sadly, abandoned hunting dogs are a very common sight in Cyprus. Sunny had been living on the outskirts of a small village after it was believed that someone had abandoned him there. A local man was complaining that Sunny was killing his chickens and that if no one came to take responsibility for him he'd simply kill him with his sickle.
Obviously there was no way anybody was going to let that happen. When Sunny first arrived at the shelter he was very malnourished, and the following day when he finally went to the toilet all that came out was plastic. No chicken bones or feathers, just a whole load of plastic that he'd probably eaten in sheer desperation. The neglect this poor boy has suffered is nothing short of plain cruel. Sunny is a sweet natured, gentle, and affectionate boy who has likely suffered a very miserable life.
Whilst we're pleased to have been able to take Sunny into the safety of the shelter, it's no place for any dog, but least of all an elderly one. Sunny needs a loving home in which he can spend his later years of life being adored. He is such a good boy and would love a warm bed to curl up in with his own family. At his age he would prefer a quiet, calm home in a semi-rural area with lovely surrounding walks for him to explore. We want him to finally enjoy his life and know what it feels like to be loved.
